Vauxhall loan guarantee helps UK plants

A £270m loan guarantee to General Motors (GM) will help secure operations at Vauxhall's UK plants.
Vauxhall makes the Vivaro van at its Luton plant and current Astravan at its Ellesmere Port plant. The Renault Trafic is also manufactured at Luton.
The UK government loan will come from the government's Automotive Assistance Programme, and was described by Vauxhall as 'a strong vote of confidence in UK automotive industry'.
Production of the Vauxhall Vivaro commercial vehicle is set to end in 2012-2013.
Around 1,500 workers are currently employed at the Luton plant to build the Vivaro.
