Van market grows in February

Van registrations have picked up in February 2010, with Peugeot, Ford and Citroen recording improved sales figures.
The data, calculated by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, showed a 26.1 per cent increase in LCV sales for February.
Citroen, buoyed by the popular Citroen Berlingo, sold the most vans in February, closely followed by Ford and Renault.
Overall, Van registrations have dropped since 2008 amid difficult market conditions, but the scrappage scheme boosted the industry at the start of this year. Now the SMMT has urged the Government to support the van and truck industry.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, said: “We don’t expect a consistent recovery for some time, either for new vans or trucks, so durable growth in business investment and confidence is vital.
“The government’s 2010 Budget needs to deliver clear, supportive and dependable policies, including better access to business credit to sustain that recovering demand for vans and trucks."
