It has been reported that Renault’s next generation Trafic van will be produced in Sandouville France, despite original plans to build in Luton.

This move would be to the cost of both Vauxhall and Nissan, who rely on Renault for the coproduction of the Vivaro in Luton and the Primastar in Spain. Renault however, is reportedly trying to convince the companies to move the production of their respective vehicles to the French plant as well.

It would seem that Renault, a company partly owned by the French state, has given in to government calls to protect local jobs – appeals that have surrounded the marque since the start of 2010. Although, rumours of a commercial vehicle being built on the Sandouville site arose in late 2008.

The Trafic, Renault’s version of the Vauxhall Vivaro and Nissan Primastar, isn’t scheduled for release until 2013; however current Trafic models are available from just £17,700.
