Renault has revealed that its all-electric Kangoo Z.E van will be priced at £16,990 excluding VAT when it hits the market next year.

This means that, with the VAT increase in 2011, Renault’s first electric vehicle will cost £20,388 before any incentives. Although electric LCVs don’t currently qualify for the government’s Plug-In Car Grant, they are eligible for 100 per cent capital write-down allowance.

Renault has also revealed several ‘purchasing concepts’ for the electric Kangoo; customers can buy or rent their van and take out a subscription for a battery. In the UK the battery will cost from £59 (£70.80 with VAT) per month, based on four years, 9,000 miles per year.

Powered by a 70bhp electric motor, the Renault Kangoo Z.E has a range of around 100 miles on a full charge, which takes between six and eight hours via a household mains outlet.

Although the 22kWh battery is mounted beneath the boot floor, load capacity and payload aren’t affected and still stand at between 3- and 3.5m3 and 650kg respectively.

As standard, the Renault Kangoo Z.E will feature 15-inch wheels, ABS, electric/heated door mirrors, illuminated cargo area and remote control central locking.
