Renault reveals electric Kangoo van

Renault has announced the final design of the electric Kangoo Van Z.E. before it arrives in showrooms in 2011.
The Kangoo Van Z.E. will have a range of 160km and despite carrying a lithium-ion battery beneath the floor, it will have the same capacity (3.5 cubic metres) and payload (650kg) as the current combustion-engine version of the Kangoo Van.
The fully electric light commercial vehicle is similar to current models, but adds Z.E. banging and low-roll resisting tyres. Renault will offer 11 body colours with the van.
Inside, an all-new dashboard displays information such as battery power and energy consumption.
The Kangoo Van Z.E. has a 44kW electric motor delivering 226Nm of torque at 10,500rpm. The 22kWh battery can be charged in six to eight hours with a household socket.
The van has road-use related zero emissions and near silent running, says Renault, which has invested nearly four billion euros into its eco-programme.
Renault will introduce the Kangoo Van Z.E. alongside an electric version of the Fluence saloon in 2011.
