More growth for vans in July

New van registrations continued to grow in July, revealed the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
17,309 new vans were sold last month, an increase of over 25 per cent on the same period last year, resulting in a 0.1 per cent rise to 204,514 for the rolling year.
This takes the year-to-date figure to 124,579, a 17.03 per cent increase on the same period in 2009.
Ford and Vauxhall were the top two sellers - no doubt boosted by buoyant sales of the Transit and new Movano – while Citroen, Peugeot and Renault all figured in the top ten best-sellers list.
The new van market was one of the only sectors to show signs of growth in July, which was a bad month for the industry as a whole. Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive surmised: “July was another surprisingly good month for vans, with useful growth."
The Ford Transit and Vauxhall Movano are priced from £17,155 and £21,066 respectively.
