May sees positive rise in van sales

New van registrations in the UK were up 32% to 17,025 in May, an SMMT report has recently revealed.
In what has been hard times for the motor industry as a whole, emerging figures from last month’s SMMT report show signs of real progress among the van sector.
The heavy van segment benefited from the biggest increase in monthly sales, with a rise of 41.1% - 9,574 units. While the medium van sector boasted the biggest Year-to-Date increase of 34.8% to 10,358 units.
Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive, says “It is vital that the emergency budget helps the recovery moving". A proposed way of doing this is to introduce more ‘supportive policies’ similar to the scrappage scheme.
Ford, buoyed by sales of the popular Transit van, remained the best-selling manufacturer in the UK, closely followed by Vauxhall.
