The future of the Vauxhall plant at Luton is close to being secured after Vauxhall agreed a deal with Renault to continue their partnership past 2013.

Vauxhall Europe Chief Executive Nick Reilly has confirmed discussions with Renault are coming to a conclusion, and he believes the European restructuring Vauxhall is currently going through will not see the plant close.

The Luton Vauxhall plant currently produces the Vivaro van in a joint venture with French manufacturer Renault.

Recently, Vauxhall announced a £270 million loan guarantee from the UK Government in order to gain a multi-billion loan from the European Investment Bank.

Vauxhall is one of a number of General Motors marque’s to take part in the European restructuring programme of the US based manufacturer.

Mr Reilly said: "We have had a very good alliance with Renault over last 10 years or more and so we'd be happy to continue. They have some requirements and we have some requirements, and that is what we are debating at the moment."
