FTA praises large van drivers

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has recognised commercial vehicle operators for their ‘exemplary safety records.’
This was brought up by Mark Cartwright of the FTA in a discussion regarding the safety risk of higher mileage vehicles in light of the government’s plans to conduct a total review of vehicle testing.
This review of vehicle testing was confirmed by transport minister Mike Penning, who is concerned that low mileage vehicles are currently being tested too often and high mileage vehicles not often enough.
“For the larger van fleet operator mileage is not an adequate indicator of safety," retaliated Cartwright.
“We can point to various examples of large, parcel carrying van operators that rack up tremendous annual mileage but maintain exemplary safety records."
One of the most popular large vans on the road is the Ford Transit, which recently celebrated its 45th anniversary in the UK. Challenging the Transit is the new Vauxhall Movano, Renault Trafic and Citroen Relay – all of which placed in the top ten best-sellers list in July.
