Ford Transit to run on hydrogen

The class-leading Ford Transit will soon be running on hydrogen power as part of a project at Stansted Airport, London.
The airport will be given a one week trial of the hydrogen-converted Ford Transit, with the option to lease the van for additional weeks.
The hydrogen Transit vans will feature the 2.3-litre petrol engine found in the current range, with the addition of a belt-driven supercharger with intercooler.
This will provide additional combustion air under pressure when the fuel mode switch is selected to hydrogen only. Hydrogen tanks will be stored underfoot.
It is estimated that this system could offer up to 95 miles on the urban cycle.
The standard Ford Transit van is available now from £17,115.
