Ford Transit celebrates 45
The iconic Ford Transit celebrates its 45 anniversary next month, and in that time it has become Britain’s best-selling van.
Since its launch in 1965, over six million Ford Transits have been built, with 2.1 million being sold in the UK.
The Transit is now built in Southampton, with engines from Dagenham and transmissions from Merseyside. It remains the best-selling van in the UK; more than 23,000 were sold in the first half of this year.
In 1965, the cheapest Ford Transit cost £542, with the most expensive – a 15-seat Custom bus – coming in just under £100. After almost 80 derivatives and around 600 Transit entities, the special edition Sapphire model went into production this year to celebrate 45 years of excellence.
The Ford Transit Sapphire represents outstanding value for money, coming in £295 more than the Hallmark special edition released five years ago despite being more powerful and better specified.
The Ford Transit Sapphire is priced from £14,995.
