Ford Fiesta van technology wins industry award

Ford technology used in the Fiesta van has won a prestigious industry award for innovation and design.
Ford’s Easy Fuel technology won the Best Technical Innovation 2010 category at the Fleet News awards because of its ‘effectiveness and simplicity’, according to the judges.
The technology consists of a filler nozzle system that prevents drivers filling the Fiesta van with petrol if it has a diesel engine.
Mistakenly filling a diesel engine with petrol can severely damage the engine and cost thousands of pounds to fix. Over 120,000 motorists reportedly made the mistake last year alone.
“It eliminates a problem which can cost thousands of pounds each time a car is misfuelled," commented judges. “Simple but highly effective, and with 300,000 units installed it is having a significant impact on fleet drivers."
The technology was first installed in the Ford Mondeo in 2007 and is expected to be used in all future diesel Ford vans.
