A convoy of Ford commercial vehicles has embarked on a 1000-mile journey to Belarus to aid the refurbishment of a local school.

The fleet consists of six Ford Transits, a Ford Ranger and a Transit Tourneo minibus – all of which were loaned by Mears and Ford of Britain.

The aid workers will build a medical room in the school where the 250 pupils can receive vital treatment.

The volunteers will be staying for ten days at the work camp and are all staff at Mears.

“The pupils of Svaryn have to make a journey of hundreds of miles every time they need treatment," the project leader Ian Blackman said.

“The people of Belarus badly need our help."
