EU discusses commercial vehicle CO2 penalties

The European Parliament has suggested that commercial vehicle manufacturers face a penalty of €95 a vehicle for van makers that miss CO2 targets.
Van makers will face similar penalties to passenger car makers if they do not cut average emissions across their model ranges to an agreed limit and by a certain timeframe.
The current target is 135g/km, but an impact study is likely before a long-term target is set.
So-called "super-credits" for low-emission vehicles, such as electric version of the Peugeot Bipper and Ford Transit Connect, have been included in the latest set of proposals.
Any short-term targets may be delayed by three years, while long-term 2020 targets may be reduced.
