The Association of Car Fleet Operators (AFCO) has reassured the industry that ‘there are no immediate or direct impacts on the van market’.

With the VAT set to rise to 20 per cent in January next year, there has been widespread fears that prices of volume vans from marques such as Citroen and Peugeot would see a sharp increase.

However after further investigation, AFCO has revealed that the VAT raise my even lay the grounds for a sales boom in the final months of 2010:

“I would anticipate a pull forward of orders to 2010 to avoid higher VAT rates next year," said AFCO Chairman Julie Jenner.

Jenner went on to say that ‘working out the fine details is likely to take some time’, though she was optimistic that the emergency budget delivered yesterday will not do any long-term damage to the UK van market.
