Commercial vehicle production rises in May

The Society of Motor Manufacturer and Traders (SMMT) reveals that commercial vehicle production rose for the seventh consecutive month in May.
The commercial vehicle production increase of 129 per cent to 10,745 in May shows signs of progress during what has been a tough time for the sector.
Some of the most popular commercial vehicles are produced in the UK, including the Vauxhall Vivaro and Astravan, Ford Transit and Renault Trafic.
Both the number of commercial vehicles retained for domestic use and exported rose sharply, with increases of 97.1 per cent and 254.7 per cent respectively.
Paul Everitt, chief executive of SMMT has warned that the next few months will be hard for the sector and has stressed how important it is for Chancellor George Osborne to produce a budget that ‘helps to sustain customer and business confidence’.
