Citroen gains highest ever market share

Citroen saw its commercial vehicle sales rocket in August, to ensure it gained one of its highest ever market share figures.
Citroen’s LCV sales surged by 66.09 per cent last month to reach a total of 862 units. Sales were strong across the company’s range, with the Nemo, Berlingo, Dispatch, and Relay models all enjoying buoyant sales.
This 66.09 per cent increase lead to a 9.95 per cent share of the market, something Commercial Vehicle Operations Manager Robert Handyside believes is a reflection of the van’s ‘customer appeal, advanced designs, strong environmental credentials and low cost of operation.’
Year to date LCV sales for Citroen currently stand at 11,071 units, up 25.74 per cent on last year. This is well above the total LCV market’s year to date gain of 16.90 per cent.
Overall, the van market was up 2.7 per cent to 205,649 sales for the rolling year. This was the only sector to show such an improvement, but SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt insists the industry can’t become complacent:
“The economy remains in the early stages of recovery and it will be important for government to help sustain growth in the forthcoming spending review."
