The Citroen Berlingo Multispace has been upgraded for 2012 with new equipment and a refreshed look, the French van maker has announced.

The people carrier version of the popular small panel van now comes with a completely revamped front end including a new grille, headlamps and the new, larger Citroen badge.

The changes also include LED running lights and tweaks to the overall shape - in particular the side mirrors - of the van to improve aerodynamics and aid fuel economy.

Citroen's Berlingo Multispace is almost identical to the Citroen Berlingo van but comes with extra windows down the flanks and seven individual seats inside.

The 2012 model comes with more cubby holes inside and an optional 'Black Pack', which adds extra colours and upholstery to the interior.

Under the bonnet, new diesel engines (and a single petrol) will be made available including a model using start-stop technology to boost fuel economy.

This, the 90bhp Airdream engine, cuts CO2 emissions to 125g/km as the greenest engine in the range and makes use of 'e-booster' technology designed to start the car quickly and more efficiently.

Citroen has not released prices for the new Berlingo Multispace but the first models will go on sale in the UK on 2nd April.

The Citroen Berlingo Multispace is one of several different body style options for the versatile Berlingo van.

The Berlingo is available in panel van, crew van and platform cab body styles alongside the more car-oriented Berlingo Multispace.

The Citroen Berlingo van is available to buy now with prices starting from £11,845 before VAT.
